I regret that when living in Austin, I never made it out west of the city on a moonless night. And hour or two drive can apparently get you some pretty dark skies.

Houston, while not as bad as NYC (where you could see T he M oon and Jupiter, and that was about it), was obviously not a good local for seeing the night sky (in fairness, it’s clearly not “Deep in the heart of Texas”)
